We are delighted to be hosting Andrew Barrowman’s work at our Penryn office through the summer months.
Andrew enjoys painting outside in the landscape he is painting, known as en plein air, this technique means the true feeling and atmosphere of his work is felt through the textures of his pieces, even though this often results in insect bites, rising tides and changeable weather!
“I love working outdoors when I get the opportunity. Painting by the sea, I often come home tasting the salt on my lips from the spray thrown into the air as the waves crash against the rocks. Painting inland, I usually come home covered in mud or scratched by brambles after tumbling over with all my painting gear – and dog in hand!”
Andrew also has a studio where many of his larger pieces are created and where he can work on many works at the same time and allow things to dry properly. Andrew is extremely talented at all aspects including the use of colour and creating the frames and supports for his work. His studio at Krowji takes part in Open Studios several times a year, you can see Andrew’s and many other work up close, details can be found here. His work can also be seen at the following galleries, Custom House Gallery Porthleven, VK Gallery, St Ives, Cambridge, Webbs Fine Art, London and Lizard Art, Trelowarren.
His oil canvases transport the viewer to the exact place the inspired him and we are even luckier that most are in Cornwall and extremely recognisable to the team and often triggering memories too, what a treat!
As always please come down to Anchor Quay and see for yourself, the artwork is for sale, and we welcome you for a walk around and a cup of tea!
